This post is part three about students who fail the IB exam

In these classes we are first going to start with only past papers. We do this to see what the student knows and what they do not. Once we have identified the trouble areas. We at AE Teaching in Barcelona will then use official IB question banks to drill those topics. And we may go back through the IB text book to cover lecture material. To make sure the student understands those topics. Then we will focus only on those topic and past paper question from that topic. Until the student understand the material and can get all the questions right all the time.

Then we move on to the next topic they stuggle with until we have covered all topics. Then we go back to real past papers and drill those until they can consistently get the score they need. If the student needs a six for example we are going to do many past papers until they can consistently get a seven. This is because on the day of the retake exam in November they may be having a bad day. Maybe the student has a headache, maybe their dog or a loved one died. So many things can happen. So we want to make sure that we are over prepared.

We want the student to be very confident. For this reason we recommend a schedule of two hours per day every day of the week including weekends. To give 14 hours per week. We would do this starting from July 5th and maintain this schedule until the teacher determines that the student can consistently get the score they need. Once we can see that they can regularly get that score then we can reduce the hours to “maintence hours” doing just enough class so that the student does not start to forget all that we have learned.
