This post will talk about IB chemistry.  To be successful in IB Chemistry students need to know the formula booklet very well.

The chemistry formula booklet is much longer than the other formula booklets for the other courses.  For this reason students will need to use it often.  Always have a printed copy.  Start to learn in which page and which area of the formula booklet is the information you need.  The test is timed and is fast so you do not want to waste time looking in the formula booklet for where information is, you need to know where it is.

Students will need to know the periodic table of elements as well.

The teachers should be giving past paper questions for their exams, so before you have an exam on a topic make sure to do the past paper questions related to that topic.  There is a bonus in that there are not many past papers to choose from and it could be that you do the past paper that the teacher gives you for the test.  This would be great as you would feel more comfortable with the questions and do better on the test.
