IB Tutor Barcelona
IB Tutor Barcelona. Economics is offered as a subject in the A levels and International Baccalaureate (IB) program.
This post will talk about the IB program economics course. These are two levels:
- Standard level (SL)
- Higher level (HL)
One of the difficulties with this course is that the students do not get a formula booklet as with the other IB courses. So they will have to memorize all definitions and graphs. Here is a link to a document which has some of the graphs that will need to be memorized.
Here is a link to the definitions that have to be memorized:
Also students will have to do an internal assessment (IA).
All IB courses require some type of IA, but in economics the students have to do three internal assessments. The good thing is that with the economics class the IAs are shorter, only 750 words. This actually makes them hard in that the students need to write very carefully to say everything that is important and not go over the word limit. The students have to write an IA for each sections of the course: microeconomics, macroeconomics, and the global economy.
Below is a link that students can use to help them plan an outline for their IA.
Finally, one of the hardest parts of the class is that the students grade is based on how they do in the final IB exams in May. This is kind of unfair as if students have a bad day the day of the exam they may not get the grade they wanted. To avoid this problem it is very important to practice many past papers. Past papers are test from previous years. There are three different exams in IB economics higher level.
The first exam is paper one. In this exam students have to write a response to a question. Their answer always needs to be in the format: definition, graph, evaluation and analysis, real world example.
