This post will talk about Paper 2 for the International Baccalaureate (IB program) Language A: English Language and Literature SL and HL.

For IB English Lang & Lit both SL and HL Paper 2 is:

“Comparative essay based on two literary works written in response to a choice of one out of four questions.”

There are a number of literary works that the students can study in the IB program such as:

  1. “Pride and Prejudice”
  2. Death of a Salesman
  3. A Dolls house
  4. The bluest eye
  5. The yellow wall paper.
  6. The Crucible
  7. “One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest”
  8. “As I Lay Dying”
  9. “Chronicle of a Death Foretold”
  10. “Dubliners”
  11. “Sound of Waves”
  12. “The Great Gatsby”
  13. “Woman at Point Zero”
  14. “Hamlet”
  15. Heaney’s poems
  16. “Heart of Darkness”
  17. “Pilgrim at Tinker Creek”
  18. The Road

Pick at least two of those to read throughout the school year. Your teacher may pick them for you and you may study them as a class. IB Math HL Tutor.

The paper asks you to compare and contrast. When you compare and contrast you will also need to show evidence. Here to get full marks you need to have quotes memorized. Go to Spark notes for the text you have chosen and memorize two or three of the main quotes. Pick either options one through four based on how it best relates to your two texts and the quotes you have memorized.
