Best International Schools in Barcelona. The best international schools in Barcelona, the best one is the American School of Barcelona (ASB), and tied or in second place is Benjamin Franklin International School (BFIS). We can objectively tell the quality of the schools by looking at their average IB score and the average pass rate. Right now, in the moment of writing this, in 2026, both of those schools have similar numbers with an IB score of 35 and similar pass rates. Both schools consistently have students who at least one or two students who can score a perfect score or get very close with a 44. A 45 is the highest score in the IB program. In our opinion, American School of Barcelona is better than Benjamin Franklin, but American School is also technically outside of Barcelona in Esplugues de Llobregat, so there can be some more logistics challenges there.

There are other schools in Barcelona, such as the British School of Barcelona (34.2 avreage IB score in 2024), Oak House (36 points), Kensington, St. George, St. Peters, Hamelin and others. Often these schools do not publish their results on their websites, but you could call them and ask them. Oak House tends to be very Spanish, with many Spanish families attending. which shifts the culture of the school and makes it more Spanish, whereas American School and Benjamin Franklin have a high percentage of people from Anglo-Saxon countries, and they bring this hardworking culture of excellence, which is very interesting if you want your student to be able to go to top universities and if your student wants very good grades.

Another thing to consider is size. Usually the bigger, the better, because this means they have more money coming in from families and can then spend more money for higher quality teachers and invest more in resources. So the American School of Barcelona has an advantage because it is outside of Barcelona where the land is cheaper and the school is physically bigger, which means it can fit more students.

The size of the graduating class at ASB was around 75 students.
