IB English Tutor – Academic Writing
This post will talk about academic writing. IB English tutor. Many students in 6th through 10th grade do not plan before they write. They just sit down the night before the writing is do and begin to write without any plan. Do not do this. Always plan before you write.
The intro paragraph: In the introudction put the context. The context is the 5Ws: Who, What, When, Where, Why and How. Then at the end of the intro paragraph put the thesis. The thesis needs to be the main point you want to make. So in your thesis make sure to combine your topic sentences of your body paragraphs.

In the body paragraphs use a topic sentence. The topic sentence tells the reader what the paragraph is about. Use the point, evidence, comentary structure. Point means say the point you are trying to make. Provide evidence that backs up your point. The comment on how the evidence proves your point. Then at the end of the body paragraph have a transition sentence which ties into the next paragraph.
Have two to three body paragraphs
Then in the conclusion summarize your main ideas. Restate your thesis in a new way. Find a new way to say your topic sentences. Do not give any new information in the conclusion.
Plan for every writing assignment that you are given. Make an outline to know what you are going to say before you write it. Never sit down and just write without a plan. The outline will keep you focused and on track.
